Bear news July 24th

This week’s news includes the bears half birthday, bear weights, a new enrichment and of course our precious cubs.

On Saturday July 18th we celebrated the bears half-birthdays. Lucky, 19, Holly 13 and Tasha 11. Each bear had a team of interns that were tasked with the job of coming up with a theme and creating a birthday box for their chosen bear.

Team Lucky was interns Ollie and Jonny. They decided to have DJ Lucky play a piano with treats under the fake key board and his records would twirl as he hit them to retrieve his treats.

Team Holly were interns Victoria and Sam, their theme was the “2000” girl.

Team Tasha was interns Addie and Ella. Her theme was oranges and treats.

The bears received their favorite treats and additional goodies that each intern put in their gift box.

Each year all the interns produce amazing ideas for enrichment for the bears. One of Addie’s ideas this year was to do paintings. Although this idea was tried many years ago; I think the solution she and her staff came up with turned out some amazing bear art. We will keep our process a secret for now. I’ll just add that it’s one of their favorite enrichments now.

Now let’s talk about our two new cubbies. How exciting is this! We are pleased to tell you they will be arriving in mid-September. Upon arrival, the brothers will be denned (housed) in Den 1. They will be visible on live camera for those wishing to follow via the cam and cubbies progress. Their arrival represents an important step in our ongoing commitment to providing a home for these orphaned cubs and continuing education.

You will see some changes coming to Den 1 as we continue to prepare for their arrival.

Our current wishlist includes cranberries, pecans and pecan pieces, walnuts and brazil nuts. We always are thrilled when our amazon wishlist is looked at and our supporters purchase and send from our needs list. This list will continue to grow as we will have 2 new mouths to feed.
